Unlike other brands that come to the market, Matilde had great expectations from the beginning. The reason for this is the legendary master blender José Seijas, who was vice president and general manager of the world's largest manufactory for over 40 years and oversaw the production of more than 60 million cigars annually. During his time at the Tabacalera de García, he developed many a successful, well-known blend. With this enormous potential and wealth of experience, he joined forces with his son Enrique in 2014 after his retirement and founded Matilde.
For the production in the Tabacalera Palma, only scooters that smoke cigars themselves are consistently employed. For Seijas, a basic requirement to guarantee a complete quality control. Of the tobacco leaves, only the part is used without strong veins. This has on the one hand optical reasons, on the other hand, especially a regular burn-off. Such details, coupled with the impressive skill in selecting first-class tobaccos and José’s blending skills, brought in Matilde in the same year the brand took the stage, 92 points and a listing among the top 25 in the magazine Cigar Aficionado – a knighthood.
