From oak barrel to legend
On the occasion of the 45th anniversary of Joya de Nicaragua, a special cigar was created in 2013: the Cuatro Cinco “Edición Limitada”.
Their selected Nicaraguan tobaccos, including five-year-old Ligero tobacco, were refined in white oak barrels that had previously housed whiskey and rum. The limited edition, limited to 4,500 boxes, delighted cigar lovers worldwide and sold out within a few weeks. Later, the “Reserva Especial” was created with a carefully adapted tobacco mixture. But the original remained unforgotten. What no one knew at the time: As early as 2013, the manufactory covered some barrels of particularly exquisite tobaccos for the future. In a specially designated room, they continued to mature at carefully controlled temperature and humidity. Internally, this hidden treasure was named Secret Cask. More than a decade later, the secret is revealed: With the Cuatro Cinco “Secret Cask”, Joya de Nicaragua presents a tribute to the legendary anniversary edition.
The additional ripening in internally flared oak barrels, in which noble spirits were previously stored, gives the tobaccos special depth and complexity. This creates a characterful cigar, whose most important ingredient, in addition to the finest tobaccos, is above all one thing: time.
