After the “Le Hoyo de Rio Seco” introduced with great success in 2018, the “Le Hoyo de San Luis” is now the third new format of the traditional line “Le Hoyo” of the Hoyo de Monterrey brand. For the first time, Habanos S.A. had focused on the origin of the tobaccos with the “Le Hoyo de San Juan” in 2014. For the insert – Ligero, Seco and Volado – only tobaccos from the town of San Juan y Martinez in the tobacco cultivation zone Vuelta Abajo are used, which is protected by law as a designation of origin. Here is also the famous Plantation Hoyo de Monterrey, whose name the Spaniard José Gener y Batet registered as a trademark in 1865. ‘Hoyo’ means ‘sink’ or ‘deepening’ and in this case describes the deep location of the plantation on the fertile banks of the San Juan y Martinez river. José Gener was the first to use the name of his Vega as a brand name for his cigars.
The “Hoyo de Monterrey” plantation, one of the large Vegas Finas de Primera, still adorns today an elaborately crafted, wrought-iron gate on the most important square of the city of San Luis y Martinez, on which the inscription “Hoyo de Monterrey. José Gener. 1860” is appropriate. Historically, the line “Le Hoyo” stood for formats of rather slim to medium ring size. This changed with the introduction of the San Juan and Rio Seco, which are characterized as modern formats by large ring dimensions at medium length.
The new Le Hoyo de San Luis looks much more elegant with a length of 160 and a ring size of 52. The production name is “Fragancias”, which means “scents” or “good smells” in Spanish. The format will be available for the first time in the Habanos range. The large volume perfectly highlights the excellent, aromatic blend with plenty of tobacco sweetness. The exquisite tobaccos of San Juan y Martinez have a decisive influence on this taste.
With the Le Hoyo de San Luis, a second ring appears for the first time in the “Le Hoyo” at the foot of the cigar. It bears the name of the format and protects the cover sheet at the end of the fire from damage.
